MEET COACH BRIAN GRANT "BG"

BG got his first taste of coaching in 1994 while playing in the Toronto Blue Jays organization. BG was invited to join the Varsity staff at Terra Linda HS in California before reporting to Spring Training. Since then, he has taken opportunities to help out with various HS programs and work with player development. He is driven to give back to the game that treated him so well since playing little league as a 9-year-old.

Coach BG has coached baseball for almost 30 years, from youth to professional. His coaching career has been blessed with numerous highlights over the years. Of the  most memorable was the 13-inning, 2-1 loss to Jesuit in the 2019 State Championship Game in his final year as the Head Coach at Central Catholic. " People still come up to me and tell me how great that game was to watch! Although no one likes to lose, I can't express how proud I am of the effort and drive our players showed that afternoon to compete til the very last pitch."

 

The ultimate achievement for a coach would soon follow that memorable 2019 season at CC. As the Pitching Coach for the Portland Pickles, BG finally was at the top of the baseball mountain winning the WCL Championship in 2023. BG's pitching staff finished as the top ranked staff in the league and had the pitcher of the year as well as multiple All League Pitchers selected. "I was so proud and amazed at our players for the daily work they put into the process that paid off with a championship ring. It was a dream come true! So much so that all I could say during the celebration was, 'Did That Just Happen!!!"
